We asked Dawn Perrier - skin specialist at Perrier Skin LTD – to tell us her secret to perfect skin whilst you lose weight. We are going to share with you, how to keep your skin hydrated, smooth and glowing all year round. What you should include in your cleansing routine and what you should be avoiding!
This is an essential starting point Dawn explains, we should body brush every day before we shower. She states it not only brushes away the dry skin from the body but it is also a form of detoxification. Dawn says we should Body Brush the dry skin all over our bodies, working from our feet up to the top of our head. We should brush clockwise on the stomach to help the colon function which will assist weight loss and the digestive system. We looked into the full benefits of Dry Skin Body Brushing and were amazed:
- Increasing the circulation of blood around the body and to the skin which will reduce cellulite, by breaking down unwanted toxins which accumulate in our body’s fat cells as well as keeping our lymphatic system working efficiently to excrete metabolic waste.
- Removes dead skin cells from the body resulting in soft, new skin appearing in its place.
- Helps muscle toning and the removal of fat cells.
- Helps unclog pores for clearer skin and reduction in rashes.

Dawn suggests incorporating Vitamins into our diets to really give us healthy glowing skin. She recommends including Calcium, Potassium and Magnesium, either with our foods or with supplements.
Magnesium helps you stay fit and energetic, as well as soothing the skin in your body to keep you looking younger for longer. If you are deficient in Magnesium you will feel weak and look older. Common signs of a deficiency in Magnesium include increased blood pressure, blocked arteries, heart problems and aging rapidly.
Calcium is important for the body as it helps cells rejuvenate quickly. It allows skin to shed and renew itself which is especially beneficial to those who suffer with skin disorders or dry skin. In the winter months it is beneficial to up your calcium intake to ensure you alleviate dryness and itching.
Potassium is the mineral that promotes cell health by maintaining electrolyte balance and internal fluids, it keeps cells hydrated and moisturized. Potassium is not only good for skin it also benefits blood pressure keeping it at a stable level.
Dawn also suggests including a ‘Dead Sea Salt Bath’ every ten days as the salt will hydrate your body and is rich in all of these minerals. It will not only energize the body, giving you more energy when it comes to exercise, a vital component to looking younger; but it will balance the skins moisture and will relax and repair muscles and aches or pains gained from exercising or tasks in day to day life.
Dawn says the benefits of drinking 2 Litres of water a day are incomparable. Water keeps your body hydrated internally and externally allowing you to flush any toxins out of the body, it keeps your digestive system working efficiently and also will ensure you have clearer skin that is less prone to wrinkles.
What we should be avoiding!
Dawns top tips are to avoid too many free radicals which will oxidise the body, to counter this she recommends upping antioxidant levels with diet. This may include, superfoods, berries or leafy greens. Exposure to sunlight is another way to oxidise yourself, it will destroy the skins tissue and can result in skin cancer. The sun can destroy collagen causing skin to wrinkle. Dawn suggests avoiding sunbeds and always wearing a sunscreen lotion of at least 25+ even during the winter months, which will ensure your skin is always moisturised and protected against the sun.
